Dinos set to regroup after sweep

EDMONTON - The University of Alberta Pandas took down the University of Alberta Dinos 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-22), sweeping the weekend series on Saturday night at Saville Community Sports Centre.

The win helps keep the Pandas their perfect season record alive, continuing onto a six game win streak and remain at the top of the Canada West Central division standings. However, the Dinos now have a 2-4 record.

A part of the charge to victory was senior Kory White with eight kills, three aces and six digs, while teammate Edan Wade had 27 assists.

Across the court, rookie Sophie Reed had eight of the Dinos 21 kills on the night. Setter Stella Rains had 12 assists and three digs.

In an equal fight to gain control of the game, both teams exchanged point after point, with the Pandas eventually finding their rhythm to pull ahead 15-8 and force their guests to call a timeout in an effort to regroup. However, the gap would be too large as the Pandas claimed the first set, 25-13.

Struggling to find success the Dinos had only two kills in the second set as the home side cruised to a 25-8 set win.

Jumping out to another quick lead, Wade sent a kill across the court to paint the baseline corner to lead 10-5. Looking like they would have a similar score line to set two, the Dinos dug deep to pull the game within three points late in the match, 22-19. However, the Dinos errors would catch-up with them again as Regan Ingram's serve went long to end the set, 25-22.

Looking ahead, the Pandas will host the MacEwan Griffins next weekend at the Saville Community Sports Centre, Friday night at 6:00 PM MT and Saturday at 6:30 PM MT. Meanwhile the Dino will travel across Calgary to take on the Mount Royal Cougars on both Friday and Saturday.
