REGINA – The University of Regina Cougars men's hockey team defeated the Calgary Dinos by a score of 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West conference game at The Co-operators Centre in Regina.

The Cougars, who have now earned 13 out of a possible 16 points in their last eight games, got two second-period power-play goals from Bryce Platt and singles from Ben Duperreault and Tyler Adams.

Brandon Holtby stopped all 40 Calgary shots to land his second shutout against a nationally ranked team this season.

For the Cougars, Saturday's win was a bit of redemption after Calgary's come-from-behind win in the weekend opener on Friday.

Duperreault opened the scoring in the first with a one-timer on a tic-tac-toe passing effort between him, Turner Ripplinger and Riley Krane.

Platt did what he does best in the second period, scoring both of his power-play goals from in tight. He shovelled in the 2-0 goal of the night after reeling in a pass from Brennan Riddle just outside the crease, and his second goal came six minutes later when he knocked home a rebound off a Tyler Heidt shot.

The Dinos had an opportunity to gain momentum after Ryan Graham was given a penalty shot early in the third, but Holtby denied him with the glove to keep Calgary off the board. 

Adams then picked up his second goal in as many nights from Tanner Sidaway and Mike Eskra to give Regina a four-goal cushion.

Both teams will now take a break from the Canada West schedule before returning to action in January. Calgary has a home-and-home with Alberta on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8, while the Cougars return to conference play with a home-and-home against Saskatchewan on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15.
