CALGARY – The No. 3 University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team returns home to take on the University of Alberta Pandas for a pair of games at the Jack Simpson Gym.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by 5 p.m. on Saturday.
HELLO AGAIN
The Dinos host their first Canada West games since February 2020 when they held playoff games at the Jack. Calgary defeated the UNBC Timberwolves in the 2020 CW Quarter-Final before falling to the Pandas – this weekend's opponent – in a tight semifinal. Despite that loss, the Dinos still advanced to the U SPORTS Final 8 in 2020 where they won the consolation bracket at the national tournament.
SHARP SHOOTING DINOS
Through the first four games, the Dinos have been excellent from beyond the arc. The Dinos average a Canada West-leading 10 three-pointers per game while shooting 38.5% (2nd in CW) from beyond the three-point line. First-year guard
Annacy Palmer leads the Dinos knocking down 10 three-pointers on the season.
QUOTABLE
"We are clearly excited to get back on the court and play. It is particularly great to be home, and finish 2021 at home. Calgary versus Alberta has always been hotly contested battles, and we expect nothing different this weekend," said Dinos head coach
Damian Jennings. "We may have been hit with some untimely injuries to close off 2021, but we have a deep, young, new team that is itching to showcase their development to date."
