EDMONTON – Led by a sparkling 28-point performance from
Noah Wharton, the No. 9 University of Calgary Dinos wrapped up a road sweep of the MacEwan Griffins with an 84-62 win Saturday night at the David Atkinson Gym.
Wharton's 28 came on 10-of-16 shooting from the field as he led the Dinos in scoring for the third time in four Canada West games on the year. His Dinos improve to 3-1 on their season-opening four-game road trip, while MacEwan drops to 0-4 on the campaign.
The contest was closer than Friday night's 36-point Dinos victory, and the Griffins held it tight through the first 20 minutes before the Dinos pulled away with a 30-point third quarter – picking up 17 of their 21-point advantage in the frame.
Ezeoha Santiago added 13 for the Dinos, who got points from 10 players on the night as they spread out the basketball effectively. It was a sharp-shooting night for Calgary, which managed 51.6 per cent from the field and nearly 41 per cent from beyond the arc, with Wharton and Santiago combining for seven of the Dinos' triples.
The Dinos face another week off before finally opening their home schedule Nov. 26-27 as they host the Alberta Golden Bears in the Jack Simpson Gym.
