LETHBRIDGE – The University of Calgary Dinos returned to Canada West action on Friday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre and earned an 81-53 win over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
For the Dinos, three players picked up double digits to lead the way,
Pollyanna Storie had a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Amelie Collin picked up 13 points and
Reyna Crawford picked up 10 points to round out Dino top point producers.
Second-year Pronghorn guard Savannah McMahon led all scorers on the night with 16 points, while Millay Johnson chipped in with 9 points.
The Dinos did the bulk of their damage in the first and third quarters with the help of the long ball. On the night the Dinos hit 14 from long range and blew the game open in the third quarter, holding the Pronghorns to only four points, while putting up 20 points of their own.
Trailing 25-13 after the opening 10 minutes of action, the Pronghorns showed some life in the second quarter, bringing the deficit back to a single possession, at 25-23 with just under seven minutes to play but that would be as close as they would get.
A 19-5 Dino run to close out the quarter put the Dinos back into a double-digit lead at the break and their execution on both sides of the ball wouldn't all the Pronghorns to make a comeback and held a commanding 32 point lead heading in the final frame.
Content to trade baskets with the Pronghorns in the fourth quarter, the Dinos cruised the 28 point victory.
The Pronghorns and Dinos will square off again Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre, tip-off is slated for 5 p.m., catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op.
