More tricks from Leonard

CALGARY – For the second time this season, Montana Leonard wreaked havoc on the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at Dinosaur Field.

The University of Calgary Dinos fifth-year midfielder scored her second hat trick of the season against the 'Horns, leading her side to a 5-0 win on Sunday.

Leonard gave credit to her teammates after the game and the work they put in off the field.

"Troye [Flannery] works with us off the field on our mental skills. Doing that off the field makes a big difference."

The Dinos offence came out firing, putting constant pressure on the Pronghorns defence and goalkeeper Erin Gill. The first goal of the match would come in the 20th minute as Leonard netted her 10th of the season on a beautiful pass from Jayden Berg.

Leonard added her second goal on a penalty kick placed perfectly under a diving Gill only a few moments after the game's opening goal.

In the 33rd minute of action, Dinos fifth-year forward Kelsie MacDonald fought and spun her way through the Pronghorns defence and netted the third goal of the game for the Dinos.

Before the end of the first half, Leonard added one more goal, as MacDonald sent a pass across the field and found the conference's top scorer for another.

The Dinos would pick up one more goal in the second half as Maiya Lee scored the first goal of her university career on a shot taken from deep range, with Amy Mikuska credited with the assist.

Gill had a busy afternoon in the Pronghorns' net as she faced 25 shots and managed to make 10 saves throughout the game. Lauren Houghton stopped all three shots she faced on the day.

Sunday afternoon's win moves the Dinos to a 6-1-1 record in Canada West while the Pronghorns fall to 0-6.

The Dinos will have a week off before heading to Edmonton to take on the Pandas on Oct. 16-17. The Pronghorns will face Alberta, Oct. 9-10.
