CALGARY – The University of Calgary women's soccer team is set to battle MacEwan University Griffins in the final weekend of Canada West regular-season action.
The Dinos and the Griffins will play back-to-back games at Dinosaur Field. The action will kick off on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m., followed by the second of the doubleheader on Sunday, Oct 24 at 12 p.m.
BATTLE FOR FIRST
The weekend will see the two top teams in the Canada West Central Division battle for first place. The Griffins are holding onto first place with a 9-1 record, with the Griffins' lone loss of the season handed to them by the Dinos back on Sept. 12. The Dinos sit at second place in the Central Division with a record of 8-1-1.
LEONARD LEADING THE WAY
Dinos fifth-year midfielder,
Montana Leonard, became Calgary's all-time leading scorer last weekend in a pair of wins against the Alberta Pandas. Not only has Leonard become the program's all-time leading scorer, but she also has tied the single-season Canada West scoring record with 16 goals.
TOE-TO-TOE CONTEST
The Dinos and Griffins enter the weekend with almost identical records in the Canada West Central Division with records of 9-1 and 8-1-1, respectively. The two programs are also nearly identical in the USPORTS Top 10 Rankings as the Dinos climbed to fifth in the nation while the Griffins climbed the ladder to sixth in the nation this week.
