Dinos remain perfect on the road

LETHBRIDGE – The No. 6-ranked University of Calgary Dinos returned to their winning ways on Saturday as they picked up their fourth road victory of the season 3-1 over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

With the victory, the Dinos improve to 5-1-1 on the season, bouncing back from a disappointing weekend against Mount Royal Cougars. With the loss, the Pronghorns drop to 0-5.

Sporting the conference's third-best offence, the Dinos opened the scoring in the sixth minute due to a Pronghorns defensive blunder. Montana Leonard capitalized on the early mistake to push her total to nine goals on the season.

In the 53rd minute, fourth-year midfielder Shyanne Hedges capitalized on another 'Horns defensive mishap that led to a throw-in deep in Pronghorns territory. Unable to clear the ball, the throw-in skipped into the box, where Hedges made no mistake with a top corner finish.

In the 60th minute, first-year fullback Brooke Barcelona earned the 'Horns a penalty kick following a strong effort to drive into the box to receive a cross. Head coach Macky Singh turned to Lucy Mundy who would make no mistake on the penalty to cut the Dinos' lead to 2-1.

Less than 12 minutes later, Mundy would make a fantastic play in the midfield, spinning to free herself of Dinos midfielder Jayden Berg. This would result in a give and go play where Mundy would receive the ball back for an uncontested chance on net but couldn't beat Dinos goalkeeper Lauren Houghton

In the 78th minute, the Dinos would restore a two-goal lead thanks to a fantastic 35-yard strike from senior forward Kelsie MacDonald. The impressive strike would hold as the game's last goal, with the Dinos securing a 3-1 victory in Lethbridge.

The Pronghorns and Dinos will run it back on Sunday afternoon at Dinosaur Field with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
