The puck drops with a battle against the Bisons

| By:
CALGARY – After 608 days, the University of Calgary Dinos return to the ice this weekend against the University of Manitoba Bisons for the 2021-22 season home opener.

Puck drop will be on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., with the second game of the weekend homestand less than 24 hours later at 2 p.m. Both contests will take place at Father David Bauer Arena.

LONG-AWAITED RETURN
After the cancelled 2020-21 season, the Dinos last home game was over 600 days ago on Feb. 15, 2020, where they defeated the Bisons in the Canada West Playoffs. During the preseason, the Dinos have compiled a 4-5 record, including a 7-1 win at home versus the MacEwan Griffins last weekend.

NEW FACES
The Dinos team will look a little different this year, with many new faces on this year's roster. Calgary will look to replace the reigning Canada West top scorer from the 2019-20 season in Matt Alfaro, who returns to the Wheeling Nailers this season for his second season of professional hockey. This year's recruiting class includes 10 players, which head coach Mark Howell says is a "blend of experience and youth."

ROUND TWO
While there is significant turnover in the roster this season, the Dinos do return a pair of players who cracked the Canada West All-Rookie team in 2019-20. Kaden Elder will play a key role in the offence again after posting 21 points in his first season with the Dinos, while Brodan Salmond is expected to be the main man between the pipes following a nine-win campaign two years ago.
