Dinos clash with Herd in CW Quarter-final

CALGARY –The University of Calgary Dinos will play host to the Manitoba Bisons this weekend for the opening round of the Canada West men's hockey playoffs, a best-of-three conference quarter-final.

The opener will be on Friday, Feb. 14 starting at 7 p.m. with Game 2 on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. All games will be at Father David Bauer Arena.

CRUISING INTO THE PLAYOFFS
The Dinos cruised into a third-place finish in Canada West after decisive victories against the Lethbridge Pronghorns. The Dinos have an impressive nine-year run making it too the CW semifinals and most recently reached the conference final in 2015.

MEETING AGAIN
The Dinos and Bisons meet again in the quarterfinals for the third time in six years. The Dinos defeated Manitoba in three games at their last meeting in 2015-16 as well as in 2013-14.

STEPPING UP
Heading into the playoffs the Dinos will look for all around production if they want to go deep into the playoffs. Multiple players stepped up to the plate this season to make it this successful. Impressive rookie seasons by Kaden Elder and Dallas Hines have been a major factor as well. Matt Alfaro won the conference scoring title with 36 points on the campaign, marking the first time since Ryan Annesley in 2007-08 that a Dino has topped the scoring leaderboard.

  • The Bisons finished their regular season against the University of Alberta where they were swept.
  • The Bisons have lost their last eight games dating back to Jan. 11 where they defeated the Dinos 2-1
  • The Bisons are returning to the playoffs after not qualifying last season. They haven't advanced past the first round since 2013-14.
ON DECK
The winner of the best of three game series will advance to the Canada West semifinal. If Calgary wins this series, they will face the Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend in Saskatoon.
