Wesmen up first as Dinos begin title defence

| By:
CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball team is set to defend their Canada West title as they host the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in the Canada West quarter-final this weekend.

In a best-of-three series, the Dinos and Wesmen will play Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Jack Simpson Gym. If needed, Game 3 will go Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m.

DEFENCE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Dinos are going to have to play lock down defence to make another long playoff run, especially against an offence like Winnipeg's. The Dinos have been dominant on the defensive end all season, averaging 11.3 steals per game, 66 points allowed per game, 26.9 opponent field goal percentage, and 26.6 opponent three point percentage – all of which are first in Canada West.

UNDEFEATED SEASON ON THE LINE
The Dinos have already accomplished an undefeated regular season but as the games get more and more important heading in to the playoffs they will be looking to keep their winning streak alive. In their final regular season contest against TRU, the Dinos became the first team in school history to accomplish an undefeated season, but that's all out the window now that the playoffs are here.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Dan Vanhooren on Lucas Mannes' big game last Saturday against the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack:

"That's what he can do. For him to have 25 points, nine rebounds, and work as hard as he does, it's tremendous. To play with that kind of emotion I am super pleased with him."
