Dinos roll into home opener against Bobcats

| By:
CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos will play the Brandon Bobcats in a two-game set this weekend for their 2019 Canada West regular-season home opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at Jack Simpson Gym.

SUCCESSFUL SEASON OPENER
After a restful bye in Week 1 and a successful two-game sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds (2-2) last weekend, the Dinos (2-0) are hoping to carry the momentum back home.

"UBC on the road was a critical weekend for us and the team played with a great focus and togetherness," said Dinos head coach Damian Jennings. "If we maintain this mentality and approach to constant improvement, we will continue to be a very tough team to beat."

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bobcats (0-4), on the other hand, are looking to recover from two consecutive weekend sweeps against Saskatchewan and Lethbridge. Dating back to 1985, the Dinos have a 16-2 record against the Bobcats and have never lost a home game.

"We are of course excited to play at home and kick start the season in the Jack, in front of our fans and alumni," said Jennings. "We have a group of players where all have the ability to be the most impactful player on the boxscore, and this continues to be a strength for us across an intense season of back to back games every weekend."

FRESH FACES
Calgary has welcomed the addition of four first-year athletes, as well as graduate student Clara Tapia Palacio, who previously played with the University of Wyoming. After losing last season's key player Lauren Anderson, Brandon has welcomed seven promising first-year athletes.

"Everyone has been willing to help me out at any stage of my adjustment; teammates and coaches," said Palacio, on her experience as the team's new guard. "As a team, we are ambitious and we want to get better every single day, every single practice. I am personally, and we all are, very excited for the home season opener against Brandon."
