CALGARY – A first-place battle will ensue on the grass of Dinosaur Field Sunday as the University of Calgary Dinos put their undefeated streak on the line against the Trinity Western Spartans.
It's a full weekend for the Dinos, who first have to face the Fraser Valley Cascades (2-2-4) Friday afternoon, with kickoff set for 4 p.m., before turning their attention to the No. 1-ranked Spartans in a noon fixture on Sunday. Both matches are set for Dinosaur Field, just west of the Olympic Oval.
FOUR-POINT WEEKEND
The Dinos return after an Okanagan road trip that saw them draw with Thompson Rivers last Saturday in Kamloops before defeating UBC Okanagan 1-0 Sunday in Kelowna. The results extended the Dinos' record unbeaten streak to 21 consecutive matches in Canada West play, dating back to the opening match of the 2018 season. In that span, the Dinos have gone 19-0-2.
CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH
Including playoffs, the Dinos' record against Canada West opponents is 21-1-2 over their last 24 contests – with the lone loss coming against the Spartans in a 1-0 decision at last year's conference championship match in Langley, B.C. There, the Spartans scored the game's lone goal in the sixth minute and held off the Dinos for the remainder to bring home their second straight CW championship.
LEONARD HONOURED
The Dinos'
Montana Leonard continues to lead the conference's scoring race with eight goals on the season. For her efforts, the fourth-year Richmond, B.C. native was named the Canada West female athlete of the month for September and will go after the monthly national honours.
