Crowchild Classic wraps up regular season

| By:
CALGARY – With playoff seeding on the line, the University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team will play their second installment of the Crowchild Classic when they take on the Mount Royal Cougars in their final regular season tilt.

The crosstown rivals will square off on Saturday at Dinosaur Field, with the match scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m.

LOOKING FOR REVENGE
It seems like a lifetime ago that the Dinos and Cougars first faced off in the opening game of the regular season for both squads, with the Cougars taking a commanding 5-0 win. The loss did not sit well with the Dinos, and they will be motivated to put on a better performance than they did in the first matchup.

JOCKEYING FOR SECOND
This is a very meaningful contest for the Dinos, as they currently sit tied for second place in the Prairie Division with the Saskatchewan Huskies, each with 19 points. With the top two in each division getting to host the opening round, Calgary will need some help from the other Canada West squads if they are to host a playoff game, as the Huskies have a game-in-hand on the Dinos, and will play two games this weekend as opposed to Calgary's single match.

TOP OF THE CONFERENCE
Goalkeeper Jake Ruschkowski has been one of the main reasons the Dinos find themselves near the top of the table this season. With two clean sheets on his record for the year, Ruschkowski also leads the conference in saves with 76.

IN GOOD HANDS
It pays to have experience, especially come playoff time, and the Dinos have a number of fifth-years who know what it takes to get it done at this time of the year. Cristiano De Carvalho, Mark Bohdan, and Jared Fillo have been to the Canada West playoffs in all four of their previous seasons, and the Dinos will look to them to lead them on another deep playoff run.

  • Defensively the cougars have been top-class all year, giving up just 10 goals in 13 games
