CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team will look to continue their early-season success as they open their 2019-20 home schedule against the UBC Thunderbirds at Father David Bauer Arena.
The home opener will be on Friday Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. with the rematch set for 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Father David Bauer Arena.
ON THE UP-AND-UP
After finishing the 2018-2019 seasons with an 18-7-3 record, with 10 of those wins coming on home ice, the Dinos are 2-0-0 to start after a strong offensive showing in their season opener on Sept. 27-28 in Regina.
NEW KIDS THIS SEASON
The Dinos welcome seven new players to their mostly veteran team this season. This includes
Kaden Elder who netted 26 goals for the Calgary Hitmen last season, University of Alaska-Anchorage transfer
Jordan Xavier, and former Detroit Red Wings Draft pick
Lane Zablocki to the Dinos forward group. WHL graduates
Dallas Hines and
Sahvan Khaira will join on the defensive end. The 2019 recruiting class is rounded out by goaltenders
Adam Marcoux and Brody Salmond who picked up his first win of the season making 16 saves on Saturday's 5-1 win against Regina on Sept. 28.
REPLACING SCORING
Key to the Dinos success this season will be finding replacement scoring after losing last year's leading scorer
Riley Sheen.
Matt Alfaro is coming off a 20 point season in 2018-19, and started this season out strong with four goals and one assist already. First year winger
Kaden Elder scored his first two goals as a Dino on the opening weekend,
Jordan Xavier also netted his first goal on Friday night. Seven Dinos got on the board on their opening weekend; four players had more than one goal in Calgary's strong start to the season.
