Blue Cougars swept, Dinos welcome green Cougars

| By:
CALGARY – After taking down the Mount Royal Cougars at the Crowchild Classic in front of 11,500 fans on a power play goal with only three seconds left in the game, the University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team gets ready for the final stretch with a two-game series against the Regina Cougars this weekend.

The series will kick on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. followed by a matinee game on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. The Father David Bauer Arena will host both games on the weekend.

SHEENER STAYS HOT
It was no surprise that Canada West's third-leading scorer played a crucial role in the Crowchild Classic series. Not only did Riley Sheen score both game-winning goals in a weekend sweep of Mount Royal, but he demonstrated a flair for the dramatic. On a late power play Tuesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, Sheen was the beneficiary of a puck that bounced right to his blade, making no mistake on a wrister to break the hears of MRU fans with just three seconds to go. Sheen is currently riding a four-game point streak in which he has registered six points.

POINTS, POINTS, POINTS
Points have been coming easy for the Dinos team as they are currently sitting at 86 goals and 146 assists during the regular season, both ranking third in the Canada West standings. That third ranking also remains consistent in the goals-per game department, holding at 3.58. The point outbreak is most likely stemmed from the great depth that the squad has with 12 players on the roster having over 10 points.

HOME ICE
With their four-point weekend against MRU, the Dinos have secured home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs and will finish no lower than third place. Calgary has an outside shot at second place and a first-round bye, but the Dinos would need to win out and see Lethbridge sweep Alberta in order for that to happen.

BOTH SIDES ROLLING
The offensive part of the game isn't the only thing that has been clicking for the Dinos this season, the defensive end of the ice has also been nothing short of stellar. Their allowing a Canada West third goals against per game at 2.28 thanks to the goaltending arsenal of Jordan Papriny and Matthew Greenfield. The penalty kill has also been nothing to scoff at, allowing only 15 goals against on the man advantage for a 86 percent kill rate.
