CALGARY – In less than 24 hours, the communities of Calgary's two largest universities will converge on the Scotiabank Saddledome for the annual celebration of university sport as the University of Calgary Dinos face off against the Mount Royal University Cougars in a hockey doubleheader.
The seventh annual Crowchild Classic begins with the women's game at 4 p.m., followed by men's action at approximately 6:45 p.m. CanadaWest.tv will have live streaming coverage.
Nearly 14,000 tickets have been scooped up by the student bodies of both institutions.
The Crowchild Classic holds the attendance record for any game between two U SPORTS teams, set in 2016 when 12,859 screaming fans jammed the Saddledome. Each and every year the event delivers outstanding hockey, with four of the six previous men's contests requiring overtime. The Dinos men are on a three-game win streak after double overtime wins in 2016, 2017, and 2018, while the Calgary women won the 2018 game 1-0.
The Dinos swept the first games of their weekend series with Mount Royal last Friday, with the Calgary women taking a 2-1 overtime win at Father David Bauer Arena while the Dinos men knocked off the Cougars 3-1 at Flames Community Arenas. The Dinos have a commanding lead in the overall Crowchild Classic series with a 12-1-1 record over the Cougars in the 2018-19 season and have clinched The Medal for the sixth time in the series' seven-year history.
