CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos begin their fourth week of regular season action with back to back games against the University of Victoria Vikes. The first game will tip off at 5 pm in the Jack Simpson Gym on Saturday, followed by the second of the two-game series at 1 pm.
CANADA WEST RIVALS
Through three weeks of regular season play this year, the Vikes are ranked seven spots ahead of the Dinos in Canada West. Regardless of standings, the Dinos should be coming into this matchup with confidence, after beating the Vikes in each of the three games that they faced off in last season. Beating the Vikes this weekend would be great for this young roster to prove their reputation as an elite team.
EMERGING STARS
Early on this season
Erin McIntosh and
Sascha Lichtenwald cemented themselves as dominant scorers for this year's Dinos squad, averaging 16.5 and 9.5 points per game respectively. Adding to the Dinos' elite scoring group in recent games has been third year forward,
Bobbi Jo Colburn. Colburn has been showing a lot of much needed maturity on the court as the season has progressed, averaging 19.5 points per game in last weekend's two-game series against Saskatchewan.
QUOTABLE
The Vikes are ranked third in Canada West defensively this season and Dinos Head Coach Damian Jennings knows that this team's newfound offensive confidence will play a big role.
"I think offensively we were making better decisions. We were brave enough to keep shooting those open shots."
