Dinos look to add to rival’s woes

CALGARY – Following a lengthy spell away from home, the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team will be back at the Jack Simpson Gym on Thursday night for the first game in a home-and-home set versus the Alberta Pandas.

DETAILS:
Dates: Thursday, Jan. 4 and Saturday, Jan. 6 
Start times: 6 p.m. MT Thursday and 5 p.m. MT Saturday  
Venues: Thursday - Jack Simpson Gym, Calgary; Saturday - Saville Community Sport Centre, Edmonton

HEADLINES:
  • Calgary is playing their first home game in 53 days, when they won their second straight game against the Winnipeg Wesmen back on Nov. 12.
  • The Pandas entered the holiday break with a 5-5 record but were placed seventh in the first RPI ranking of the season for Canada West.

CALGARY DINOS: 7-3
  • Calgary was last in action during the first weekend of December when they earned a split on the road against the previously undefeated Saskatchewan Huskies.
  • Fifth-year guard Brianna Ghali has led the Calgary attack through 10 games, averaging 15.0 points per game.
  • The Dinos fell just short of the latest U SPORTS Top 10 rankings in December, receiving fewer votes than the No. 10 Ryerson Rams.

ALBERTA PANDAS: 5-5
  • Alberta lost their final four games heading into the holiday break with setbacks against the Huskies and Victoria Vikes.
  • Second-year guard Emma Kary leads the Pandas in scoring this season, picking up 12.2 points per game.
  • Alberta won Canada West bronze last season and entered this year as the third ranked team in the conference pre-season coaches poll.
