Dinos offence humming coming into matchup against UBCO

| By:
CALGARY – Following consecutive 100 point outings last weekend, the No. 4 University of Calgary Dinos brings home an offence that is regaining its rhythm heading into the playoff push. Meeting the Dinos on the court this weekend is a UBC Okanagan Heat squad that has been reeling, having lost their last 10 games after a 2-2 start.

DETAILS:
Dates: Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20
Start Times: 8 p.m. MT Friday and 7 p.m. MT Saturday
Venue: Jack Simpson Gym, Calgary

HEADLINES:
  • The Dinos climbed one spot in the national rankings this week to No. 4, due impart to a thrilling 3OT win for Lethbridge over UBC. The Dinos hold the second strongest strength of schedule in Canada West and are currently tied for second in the conference.
  • A heavy reliance on isolation basketball has led to UBC Okangan scoring a CW-worst 62.1 points per game this season.

No. 4 Calgary Dinos (11-3)
  • With only two weeks left in the regular season, the Dinos are preparing for another deep run in the Canada West playoffs, carrying the No. 2 defence and No. 4 offence in the conference.
  • In what could be a potential trap game, the Dinos shouldn't take this matchup lightly. Two wins this weekend would likely clinch them a playoff spot heading into the final two weeks of the season.
  • While his scoring output may have dipped this season, David Kapinga remains a steadying force for the Dinos. Kapinga is in the top 10 in assists per game and top five in steals per game, on a Dinos team that boasts one of the strongest backcourts in Canada West.

UBCO Heat (2-12)
  • There will be one Heat player who will surely receive some cheers in front of the Calgary home crowd. Fourth-year Calgary native Aloysius Callaghan will return to the Jack Simpson for the first time since he played for the Dinos last season.
  • While the team may be struggling to find an offensive identity, their non-stop hustle has been evident throughout the season. UBCO ranks in the top five in the conference in offensive rebounds per game and will look to exploit that against a Calgary team that has struggled to collect defensive rebounds this season.
  • Fourth-year guard Aldrich Berrios is one of the few veteran presences on the upstart Heat and has been playing a massive role at both ends for UBCO this season. Leading Canada West at 36.4 minutes per game, Berriros' name can be found at the top of most offensive and defensive categories for the Heat.
