CALGARY – After a pair of tight, defensive contests to open the season last week, the Dinos women's soccer team welcomes the Trinity Western Spartans and the Fraser Valley Cascades to campus for their 2017 home openers this weekend.
The Dinos enter the week at 0-1-1 after a tough 1-0 loss at Alberta followed by a 0-0 Crowchild Classic draw against the Mount Royal Cougars.

CALGARY DINOS (0-1-1)
- Last week: 1-0 loss against the Alberta Pandas and a 0-0 draw against the Mount Royal Cougars
- Next week: The Dinos will be on the road, playing against the University of Regina Cougars and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
- The Dinos were unstoppable in the pre-season, by winning all four of their matches
- Natalie Arnett will have to put aside her friendships as she is playing against her old team, Trinity Western, Saturday. The fourth-year forward has had an amazing season last year, as she was recognized as a second-team Canada West All-Star. She contributed seven goals and 11 points for the Dinos last season.
- Maddison Fritze, a fourth-year forward, will try and make her breakthrough to score, as she had four shots on goal last weekend against the Mount Royal Cougars.
- This year the Dinos add eight first year players to their roster. This new, young energy is what the team needs to attack each and every game.
TRINITY WESTERN SPARTANS (1-1-0)
- Last week: 3-0 loss against the UBC Thunderbirds and a 2-1 Win against the Victoria Vikes.
- Next week: The Spartans travel to Prince George to play against University of Northern British Columbia TImberwolves and then head over to Edmonton to play against the MacEwan Griffins.
- The No. 3-ranked Spartans were able to bounce back from their loss of the season against the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday and win 2-1 against the University of Victoria Vikes on Sunday.
- Rachel Hutchinson, a midfielder/ forward has been the lead scorer so far this season, with racking up 2 goals in the preseason and a goal in the second game of the regular season.
FRASER VALLEY CASCADES (0-1-1)
- Last week: 2-2 draw against the Victoria Vikes and a 3-1 Loss against the UBC Thunderbirds.
- Next week: The Cascades travel to to Edmonton to play against the MacEwan Griffins then travel to Prince George to play against University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves.
- Almost half of the Cascades team is in their first year of playing in U SPORTS. Both teams have several of rookies on their roster, so the match shall be very fast paced and high in energy.
- Amanda Carruthers is the team's lead scorer. In their first match of the season, the fifth-year forward scored both Cascades goals.
