CALGARY – Following their impressive sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds, the No. 4 Dinos take aim at the University of Winnipeg Wesmen this weekend. Winnipeg will be up for the task after facing the No. 3 Alberta Golden Bears last week.
DETAILS:
Date: Saturday, Nov. 11 and Sunday, Nov. 12
Time: 7 p.m. MT Saturday and 4 p.m. MT Sunday
Venue: Jack Simpson Gymnasium
HEADLINES:
- Despite being swept by the Golden Bears, the Wesmen displayed grit against one of the nation's best, and were able to build a first half lead in the Friday game.
- Familiarity will not be on either teams side this weekend; the Dinos have not played against Winnipeg in over two years.
No. 4 CALGARY DINOS (4-0)
- Mambi Diawara not only leads the Dinos in scoring, but all of Canada West. Diawara's 25.8 points per game is good for fourth in the nation, and his consistency has been vital in the Dinos torrid start.
- Overlooked perhaps due to their offensive proficiency has been the Dinos defence. The Dinos are conceding only 27.6% of three pointers, and in their two victories last week, forced the Thunderbirds to commit 53 turnovers.
- Jhony Verrone leads all qualified shooters in CW in three-point percentage. His 80% clip has continued to provide a steady 3-and-D presence for the Dinos.
WINNIPEG WESMEN (1-3)
- Second-year guard Narcisse Ambanza leads the Wesmen offensively with 16.8 points per game. The Wesmen have infused youth into their starting lineup, with only one fourth-year starter, and only one fifth-year player on the roster.
- Ball movement has been critical in the Wesmen offence to start the season; Winnipeg averages a CW fifth-best 15.8 assists per game.
- The Wesmen finished seventh last year in CW and qualified for CW playoffs. In the quarterfinals they lost to Saskatchewan Huskies.
