Dinos' ball-hawking defence heads to Saskatoon

| By:
CALGARY – Following their first loss of the season, the No. 4 University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball team looks to close out the first half of the Canada West season on a high note against the Saskatchewan Huskies. Last year's Canada West Bronze Medal Game may still be fresh in the minds of the Huskies after Calgary defeated Saskatchewan 111-106 in overtime to punch their ticket to the 2017 U SPORTS Final 8.

DETAILS:
Date: Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2
Time: 7 p.m. MT Friday and 7 p.m. MT Saturday
Venue: Ron & Jane Graham Court, Saskatoon

HEADLINES:
  • Ball security should factor heavily into the outcome. The Dinos lead CW with 12.6 steals per game, while the Huskies hold the third-lowest turnover margin.
  • Things don't get any easier for the Huskies after dropping both games last week to No. 3 Alberta. The Huskies come into the weekend on a four-game slide.

No. 4 CALGARY DINOS (7-1)
  • The Calgary defence continues to stifle opposing offences. David Kapinga's active hands and intensity permeates through the rest of the lineup, as Calgary boasts the second-best defence in CW.
  • Mambi Diawara's stats continues to grow. At the halfway point of the season Diawara leads CW with 25.0 points per game, is fifth in rebounds with 8.9 per game, and fourth in steals with 2.5 per game.
  • This weekend marks the final games of the fall session for the Dinos, who visit Carroll College in Helena, Montana over the break, before facing No. 3 Alberta in early January.

SASKATCHEWAN HUSKIES (2-6)
  • The Huskies run a tight rotation, with Addison Dewar leading CW with 37.3 minutes per game. The Huskies have four players in the top ten of minutes per game in CW.
  • Fourth-year forward Joseph Baker has been all over the glass for Saskatchewan. The hometown product leads CW with 10.0 rebounds per game on a team that ranks second to the bottom in team rebounds.
  • The Saskatchewan offence has struggled to find its footing to begin the 2017/18 season. Lawrence Moore leads the Huskies in points (20.9) and assists (4.4), but has not received consistent support from his team. The Huskies have been held to just 64.5 points per game in their losses this year.
