CALGARY – The University of Calgary men's soccer team will host city-rival Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday at West Varsity Soccer Pitch. Kickoff is set for 2:15 p.m.
The Dinos are 3-5-0 after a dual game loss two weeks ago on home turf. Reigning Canada West rookie of the Year
Bori Falaye leads Calgary with four goals in the season, while
Kellen Kuipers and
Jorge Leon Gomez each scored once in the conference.
Bryce Connors also boasts a game-changing strike, and forward
Dominik Zuczek has tallied one goal and assisted on two. Freshman
Jake Ruschkowski has made 25 saves accumulating to a 1.33 goals-against average and a .806 save percentage.
Dinos head coach
Brendan O'Connell praised Ruschkowski, stating, "he's an outstanding player; probably one of the best shot-stoppers I've seen. We are very pleased with what he is doing."
Mount Royal is 2-3-3 on the season and has tied its last two games, versus Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan. Arguably one of Mount Royal's fastest players, Jake Vickers will be a force to be reckoned with, having a game-winning goal and assist under his belt. Rookie Joshua Munoz is equally dangerous, beating the opponents goalkeeper twice throughout. Other players to watch out for include Ryan Clancy, Justin Anderson-Louch, Daniel Harrison, Richard Nyavor and Orest Ndabaneze.
The series shifts to MRU for Sunday's contest, set for 1:30 p.m.
