High scoring Dinos battle Golden Bears

| By:
CALGARY – Coming off an offensive explosion over the weekend against the UBC Thunderbirds, scoring 13 times in their two victories, the sixth-ranked University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team will look to keep their momentum rolling as they play a home-and-home set against the potent No. 2 University of Alberta Golden Bears.

In Vancouver last weekend, the Dinos excelled in the offensive zone and found a way to get to the dirty areas for goals.

"The key was us getting to the net," shared fifth-year defenceman Drydn Dow. "We scored a lot of goals by getting in front of the goalie and scoring in tight or on rebounds, so we need to continue to do that to have success this weekend."

Dow, who was the only defender who scored over the weekend, had a lot of help up front putting up numbers. Eight different forwards rippled the twine over the weekend, including Riley Sheen, Coda Gordon, and Luke Harrison, who each scored twice.

The new recruits have made a noticeable impact early, with six of 10 first-year skaters having registered at least a point in the team's first four games.

"The new recruits have been great for us so far. Everyone has come in and played hard and have been able to fill roles nicely. I believe this is one of the deepest teams we have had since I've been here and a large part of it is due to our recruits," said Dow.

In the crease, the tandem of goaltenders Matt Greenfield and Jordan Papirny have been exceptional. With a combined save percentage of .966 and a goals-against average under one, goals for the opposition have been hard to come by. Greenfield and Papirny split starts against the Thunderbirds, only allowing one goal between them.

Last season, the Dinos and Golden Bears split the season series before Alberta eventually swept their second round best-of-three playoff series.

"We need to play a simple game. [Alberta] is a good team to it's important that we stick to our game plan and try and [play] the majority of the game in their zone," explained Dow.

"It will give us our best opportunity to have success this weekend."

The home-and-home set will begin Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary before shifting north to the Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton, Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 5 p.m. puck drop.
