CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team is home for two games this week. The Dinos take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 2:15 PM, before hosting the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Sunday. Both games will be played at the West Varsity Soccer Pitch.
Last week the Dinos (4-6-0) stayed in Calgary, playing a home-and-home, and earned a 3-0 win over Mount Royal University Cougars on Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, Calgary fell 2-1 to the Cougars, suffering their sixth loss of the season.
Bori Falaye led the team, with four goals and two assists for six points.
Bryce Connors accumulated two points with two goals, while
Jared Fillo and
Dominik Zuczek had one goal each.
Calgary's defence has been key, with rookie
Jake Ruschkowski making 35 saves this season for a 1.23 goals against average and a .814 save percentage.
Saskatchewan currently holds a 7-4-1 record in the conference, and has already managed to clinch a playoff spot. Last week the Huskies had a bye-week, but battled out to a 0-0 draw the week prior against the top-ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears. Patrick Pranger of the Huskies was named the U SPORTS Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending October 1, 2017. Pranger has made 38 saves this season for a 1.00 goals against average and a .792 save percentage. Also noteworthy are Gabriel Buatois and Kwame Opoku, leading the team with six points each.
The Pronghorns bring a 2-8-2 standing to Calgary, and most recently played to a 3-1 loss at home on October 1 versus the MacEwan University Griffins. Third-year Nolan French currently ranks second in the Canada West standings, having had been in goal for nine of the 12 games played, while totaling 765 minutes of action. French has made a total of 60 saves and boasts a 2.00 goals against average and a .779 save percentage. Stephen Primeau and Dominique Point du Jour are the two scoring targets. Primeau has nine points on three goals and three assists, while Point du Jour has five points on two goals and one assist in five games. Rookie Ellis Davies chipped in two goals, for four points.
