KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The University of Calgary Dinos tallied three times in the second half and to defeat the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 4-2 in Canada West men's soccer play Sunday afternoon in Kamloops.
The Dinos rallied from a loss Saturday in Kelowna with the victory in their first ever appearance at Hillside Stadium. They raised their record to 4-2 while the WolfPack fell to 3-5.
After TRU opened the scoring,
Jared Fillo took a feed from
Kieran Lane-Oppenheim in a scramble in front of the WolfPack goal on 41' and sent home his first of the season, and it was tied at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Less than two minutes into the second half,
Jorge Leon Gomez scored his first of two on the afternoon to give the Dinos the lead. Ten minutes later, he took a feed from
Dominic Russo and sent home the eventual game-winner as Calgary took a 3-1 lead.
TRU got one back just moments later, but the Dinos sealed it when Russo took a feed from
Dominick Zator and streaked in on a breakaway to score his seventh of the season as the game wrapped up at 4-2 in favour of the Dinos.
"It was a big second half for us considering the result yesterday," said Dinos Head Coach
Brendan O'Connell. "I am very proud the way they came out. I am very proud of the performance by our boys."
The Dinos return home next weekend to face UNBC and Victoria. Saturday's contest against the Timberwolves will mark the team's 50th Anniversary alumni celebration, with festivities starting before the women's game at noon. The men will kick off at 2:15 p.m.
