| By:
REGINA, Sask. - The University of Regina men's hockey team closed the 2016 Cougar Summer Challenge with a 5-3 loss against the Calgary Dinos at The Co-operators Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Calgary's Dylan Walchuk opened the scoring in the first period, banging in a rebound in traffic past Mitch Kilgore. Cody Fowlie answered at the start of the second period following a Calgary penalty, knocking a rebound home from the doorstep after a shot from Dillan McCombie was stopped by Coleman Vollrath.

Just over a minute after the Fowlie goal, TJ Dumonceaux took a feed in the slot and ripped one past Kilgore to restore the Dino lead. Two minutes later, Elgin Pearce followed that up with a goal of his own to give Calgary some breathing room. Walchuk and Adam Kambeitz added goals before the end of the period, bumping the Dino lead to 5-1.

Tyler King and Colton Sparrow scored for the Cougars in the third, but Calgary would hold on for a 5-3 win.

Manitoba kicked off Saturday's action with a 5-2 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies, led by Brett Dudar who had two goals and an assist. Daniel Stagg, Brett Stovin and Brett Brooks also found the net in the win.

Levi Cable and Jordan Tkatch netted goals for the Huskies, as both teams finished the weekend with a 1-1 record.

On Friday at the Ochapowace First Nation, the Cougars and Huskies battled in a back-and-forth contest, with the Huskies earning a 6-4 win. King was able to open the scoring for Regina before Cam Blair answered for Saskatchewan.

Tyler Bell kicked off the second period with a goal for Regina, but the Huskies replied with two quick ones thanks to Jaimen Yakubowski and Andrew Johnson. The third period was a whirlwind of scoring as Tristan Frei and J.J. Coleshaw were able to score for Regina, but John Lawrence, Parker Thomas and Johnson found the net for Saskatchewan to keep the Huskies on top.

The Huskies outshot the Cougars 33-30 on the night. Fowlie collected two assists for Regina.

Also on Friday night, the Dinos dismantled Manitoba, earning a 7-2 win at The Co-opertaors Centre.
