Rams in town Saturday to wrap up home schedule

| By:
CALGARY – With first place wrapped up, the No. 1 University of Calgary Dinos have two weeks to do some fine tuning before the postseason, and the first is set for Saturday afternoon at McMahon Stadium as they host the Regina Rams.

The Dinos and Rams met once earlier this season, with Calgary putting up a dominant 72-8 win in Regina on Sept. 26. They come into the game at opposite ends of the standings, with Calgary sitting at 6-0 while Regina is still looking for its first victory of the season.

Prior to the game, the Dinos will recognize their graduating seniors: fullback Anthony Anderson, linebacker Anton Bellot, quarterback Andrew Buckley, linebackers Doctor Cassama and Tanner Doll, kicker Johnny Mark, centre Sean McEwen, and receiver Mac Sarro.

GAME NOTES (.pdf)

HEADLINES
•    The second of two meetings between the Dinos and Rams in 2015. Calgary easily won the first 72-8 on Sept. 26 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina
•    The game will impact the teams' records, but will have little bearing on the standings. The winless Rams could climb to fifth place in the conference with wins in both of their final games, but they have been eliminated from playoff competition. Calgary, meanwhile, has clinched top spot and will enjoy home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
•    Both teams have new head coaches in 2015, with Mike Gibson patrolling the sideline for the Rams and Wayne Harris for the Dinos
•    The final home game of the regular season for the Dinos, but they will host at least one playoff game on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. With a semi-final victory, the Dinos would then host the 79th Hardy Cup on Saturday, Nov. 14.
•    The Dinos have won the last four games in a row against Regina, and nine of their last 10 regular season match-ups.

No. 1 CALGARY DINOS (6-0)
Before bye: defeated Saskatchewan 44-15
Next week: at Alberta

•    The Dinos wrapped up top spot in Canada West last week with a 44-15 road win over Saskatchewan
•    Quarterback Andrew Buckley continues on his impressive statistical run, having thrown for more than 400 yards in each of his last four starts. He needs just 452 yards in the last two games to set a new school single-season passing record. The current record of 2,823 yards has held up for more than 30 years: Greg Vavra set it in the Vanier Cup-winning season of 1983.
•    Buckley, the 2014 Hec Crighton Trophy winner and Canada West's nominee for the BLG Award as the top male athlete in CIS, was named a Top 8 Academic All-Canadian this week by CIS. He will join the other seven recipients from across the country at a reception hosted by the Governor General Nov. 16 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
•    At 6-0, the Dinos are closing in on a potential undefeated season. Calgary has pulled off that feat just once in program history: a perfect 8-0 record in 2013 (a second season, 2011, finished at 7-1 but was adjusted to 8-0 after a forfeit by UBC)
•    The Dinos will see a youth movement in their roster for this game, with several players dressing for their first career games. Receivers Giancarlo Spoletini and Scott Childs, fullback Brenden Hansen, and defensive lineman Steven Finot are among the young players expected to dress for the Dinos

REGINA RAMS (0-6)
Before bye: lost 46-49 vs. Manitoba
After bye: host Saskatchewan

•    The Rams have struggled all year, and they lost a heartbreaker last week to Manitoba in a 49-46 shootout at Mosaic
•    Despite the 0-6 record, Regina has put up better offensive numbers than the opposition in five of their six games (the Calgary game being the lone exception)
•    Quarterback Noah Picton is averaging 286 yards per game, fourth-best in the conference, while RB Atlee Simon is the leading rusher in the conference with 705 yards in is five games played
•    Mason Rossler leads the Rams in tackles with 42 on the year, tied for third-best in Canada West
•    Rams kicker Andrew Fabian, who redshirted for the Dinos back in 2009, is just behind Calgary's Johnny Mark with a 37.8-yard punting average. Mark's stands at 40.6 yards.
•    Regina will host provincial rival Saskatchewan to close the regular season next week

DINOS RECORDS WATCH
•    K Johnny Mark enters the game with 497 career points, the all-time scoring leader in CIS football history
•    With 84 career field goals, Mark is the new Dinos and Canada West record holder in the category, beating Aaron Ifield's 71 (2006-10). He is tied for the CIS record in the category with Tyler Crapigna (McMaster, 2010-14).
•    RB Mercer Timmis has 42 all-purpose career TDs, passing Matt Walter's (2007-11) previous school record of 35.
•    Timmis also owns the school record for rushing TDs with 40 and enters the game with 2,897 rushing yards, 3rd on the Dinos' all-time list.
•    QB Andrew Buckley has 2,371 passing yards on the season and needs just 452 more through the last two games to set a new school record in that category (2,823, Greg Vavra, 1983). He also has an outside shot at the school career passing record of 8,401 yards (Vavra), needing 993 more in the final two games.
•    With a 71.2 completion percentage, Buckley is poised to have the most accurate seaton in school history. He is also 42 completions behind Vavra's 1983 record of 178 with 136 heading into Saskatoon.
