Biography

2014: Battled with Dzwilewski to win the starting quarterback position during training camp and started all 10 games on the year … led the Dinos to a 7-1 on-field record and the most potent offence in Canada, leading the Dinos to school records in points (419), touchdowns (51), rushing yards (2,545), and total offence (5,082) … led all quarterbacks in Canada West with 18 TD passes while throwing fewer interceptions than any other pivot in the conference … led the nation in rushing yards by a QB with 510, finishing fifth in the Canada West rushing race … completed 64.3 per cent of his passes, averaging 272 yards per game … played the equivalent of just 6.25 games after giving way to the backups as the team pulled out to big leads … unanimous Canada West all-star quarterback … won Frank Gnup Trophy as Canada West MVP, and put forward as the conference’s nominee for the Russ Jackson Award for the second straight season … won the Hec Crighton Trophy as the top player in CIS football, while repeating as winner of the Russ Jackson Award, becoming the first player in history to record that career double … first team All-Canadian at quarterback … repeat appearance on the CoSIDA-Captial One Academic All-America® football team … named the City of Calgary male athlete of the year by the Calgary Booster Club, as voted on by local media – beating out Olympic medallists and professional athletes (including the Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders) for the honour …

2013: Stepped in as the Dinos’ starting quarterback in Week 1 after incumbent Eric Dzwilewski was sidelined with an injury … led the Dinos to their first-ever 8-0 record, passing for 2,184 yards and 12 touchdowns, adding four rushing TDs … selected as a Canada West all-star at quarterback … captured the Russ Jackson Award for athletic ability, citizenship, and academic prowess … tossed for 211 yards and two touchdowns as the Dinos shocked top-ranked Western in the Mitchell Bowl to earn a trip to the Vanier Cup … the team’s leading rusher with 82 yards on 8 carries while completing 19 of 29 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown in a 25-14 setback to Laval in the national championship game … earned Academic All-Canadian status for the third straight season … winner of the Calgary Booster Club-University of Calgary Scholar-Athlete Award … selected as a Capital One Academic All-America® at the football quarterback position for his division, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from among players from across North America … received the University of Calgary’s Senate Service Award in recognition of his work in the community …
