BOX SCORE CALGARY- A feisty effort by the University of Calgary Dinos fell short on Enterprise Senior Player recognition night as the University of Saskatchewan Huskies held on for a 3-2 win at the Father David Bauer Arena.

The Huskies carried a two-goal lead heading into the third period where Calgary pushed to avoid a weekend sweep. Goals from Heather Berzins and Janelle Parent knotted the score, but in the midst of frantic action at both ends, Kaitlin Wiloughby netted her second of the game to secure two points for Saskatchewan.

Before the game, Calgary recognized its three senior players for their time with the team. Amanda Tapp, Sinead Tracey and Calaine Inglis all had family on the ice with them pre-game as they were honoured for their years of play.

"It would have been nice to get the win but to see everyone play with such heart in our final game and my game here was overwhelming but good,"
stated Captain Sinead Tracey.

In the first 20 minutes it was apparent Calgary wasn't looking for a repeat of Friday's game. Holding most of the play in the Huskies end, Saskatchewan had to wait until the 5:58 mark to get their first shot on net.

Even with the strongest chances coming off the stick's of Dinos, it would be Saskatchewan to score first. Rachel Johnson fired a shot from the hash marks that hit Tapp's shoulder and hopped past her where Kandace Cook made sure it went in.

In the middle stanza both teams made a parade to the penalty box, but neither would capitalize on the man advantages given. Saskatchewan would add another goal to their lead that went unanswered by the Dinos in the second period. Huskies' Willoughby received a pass from Cami Wooster to beat Tapp high blocker side.

It didn't take the Dinos long in the third period to find the back of the net, Megan Grenon fired a shot that trickled across Karen Lefsrud's crease, allowing Berzins to help it find its way into the net.

Just four minutes later Parent beat Lefsrud glove side on the power play to tie the game at two a piece.

Saskatchewan wasn't giving up there though. Applying a ton of pressure on the Dinos' defence, Wiloughby beat Tapp one more time low glove side to claim the game winner.

"I'm proud of the way we played tonight. There was a lot of hard work from everybody. Pucks will bounce our way when everyone is playing hard," said Tracey.

With tonight's win Saskatchewan improves to 16-4-6, while Calgary falls to 10-14-2.

The Huskies will stay at home next weekend to host a two game series against the Conference leading University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

Calgary will close out their regulation play against their cross-town rivals the Mount Royal University Cougars. The ultimate crosstown smackdown will be held at the Scotiabank Saddledome Thursday Feb. 6th in the final installment of the Crowchild Classic. Tickets are free for the event.
