CALGARY - University of Calgary setter
Jordhynn Guy quarterbacked the Dinos to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-11) win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies with 30 assists Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
In the win, Guy earned all but two assists in the three set match, tallied three digs, one kill and two assisted blocks.
Kate Pexman led the Dinos with nine kills, while Ali Wooley added another eight on the night.
Saskatchewan middle blocker Kayla Tycholiz tallied eight kills in the loss for Saskatchewan, followed by outside hitter Erin Guillemin with six. Middle blocker Emily Humbert also tallied five for the Huskies. Anne Hanbidge had a match-high nine digs.
With the win, the No. 9 ranked Dinos improve to 5-4, while the Huskies drop to 3-4.
Saskatchewan started the first set with a 2-0 lead on a Tycholiz kill and block but Calgary quickly took control. The Dinos grew a five-point lead at 7-2 and never looked back. Down 23-13, the Huskies scored the next two points on Calgary attack errors but just two plays later a
Jaylynn Moffatt ended the set 25-16.
The Huskies seemed to have control of the second set and after a Jina Barker ace held a 9-4 lead. Calgary crawled back into the the set with a 5-3 run. Three
Beth Vinnell kills within five plays gave Calgary the lead and Saskatchewan couldn't get it back. A Saskatchewan service error ended the set 25-23.
Like the first set, Calgary had control from the beginning growing a 6-1 lead. Calgary won 25-11.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at the PAC. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
