Dinos back on top with win over Wesmen

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos continued their impressive season Saturday, October 4, downing the University of Winnipeg Wesmen 5-0.

Todays win puts Calgary back in first place in the Prairie division with a record of 5-1-3. Winnipeg falls to record of 1-6 and brings up the rear of the Prairie division.

The Dinos opened up the scoring just 25 seconds into the game when Jordan Smith connected on a loose ball in the box. Amy Hockings collected an assist on the play.

Calgary controlled majority of the game, collecting two more goals before the end of the half. Maddie Lee capitalized on a penalty shot and in the 40th minute Maddison Fritze beat a defender wide before sending the ball past Wesmen goalie Taylor Thorkelsson.

Heading into the second half with a 3-0 lead the Dinos continued to exercise control of the play. In the 53rd minute Kayla Kreutzer put a shot on net from just inside the box, Thorkelsson got a piece of the shot but not enough to keep it out.

Calgary wasn't done there. Adding one more to their total on the afternoon, Zoe Kreutzer beat Thorkelsson before sending the ball into an empty net on a pass from Dominica Wronski.

The Dinos will look to spread the gap between themselves and Grant MacEwan, who currently hold second place, in tomorrow's rematch against the Wesmen. Kick off is at noon at the West Varsity Pitch in Calgary.
