Russo, Hood tally as Dinos blank Griffins

EDMONTON - The University of Calgary Dinos controlled the ball in their return to action after a week off, shutting out conference newcomer MacEwan 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Edmonton.

Dominic Russo ['37] and Andrew Hood ['54] scored the goals for Calgary.

Heading into the match, the third place Griffins were coming off an excellent showing versus the University of Alberta Golden Bears, but were unable to muster up the same intensity level nor scoring opportunities. This gave the 4th ranked Dinos all the opportunities they would require as they outshot the Griffins 24-5 en route to the victory.

Griffins keeper Adam Hajji, stopped 13 Dinos attempts and was named the player of the game.

James Gourlay, a Dinos midfielder, registered a shot on goal and two shots on the game. He was also credited with an assist on Russo's opening goal and was named the Dinos player of the game.

The rematch goes Sunday afternoon at the JP Bowl in Edmonton, with kickoff at noon MT.
