BOX SCORE SASKATOON - Andrew Bailey's hat trick led the way as the Saskatchewan Huskies handed the No. 1 Calgary Dinos their first regulation loss of the season by a 4-3 score Friday night.
The fifth-year Business student scored the first three goals for Saskatchewan, who trailed 3-1 entering the third period, at the Credit Union Centre. Jesse Ross scored the game winner with 41 seconds left in the game.
With the win Saskatchewan improves to 13-9-1 on the season. Calgary suffers its first regulation loss of the season to drop to 20-1-2.
Craig McCallum started the play on the game-winning goal just inside the Dinos blue line while on the power play. McCallum looked like he was going to shoot before slipping a quick pass to Ross in the slot. Ross fired a shot five-hole on Calgary goalie
Kris Lazaruk.
Bailey got his first of the game in the second period, one-timing a Kenton Dulle pass over the blocker of Lazaruk at 12:48. With the Huskies down 3-1 in the third period, Bailey scooped up a blocked Kendall McFaull point shot in front of the crease before spinning it and sending a shot just under the cross bar at 4:14.
Completing the hat trick on the power play at 12:22, Bailey tied the game up with a hard shot to the back of the net off a Lazaruk rebound.
Ryan Harrison opened the scoring short-handed at 4:15 of the second period. On the face-off that followed a Dino penalty
Spencer Edwards sprung Harrison with a lead pass to the centre line. From there Harrison avoided a Huskie defender and put a shut just under the arm of goalie Ryan Holfeld.
Harrison scored his second of the night, this time on the power play, just over a minute after the Huskies tied the game at one. Harrison deflected a
Giffen Nyren point shot just under the cross bar at 13:34.
Nyren scored the Dinos' second short-handed goal of the night at 15:13 of the second to make give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Nyren slid the puck past a sprawling Holfeld after a quick move in front of the net.
Holfeld made 29 saves in the win, while Lazaruk stopped 26 Huskie shots.
The two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is slated for 1 p.m. MT at Credit Union Centre, live on CanadaWest.tv.
