Miller paces Dinos to shutout win

| By:
BOX SCORE REGINA – Tessa Miller had a goal and added three assists to lead the University of Calgary to a 7-0 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday afternoon in Canada West women's soccer action at the U of R Field.

Nikki Furukawa scored a pair for the Dinos while Lauren Vernon, Amy Hockings, Jordan Smith, and Frederique Bradbury-Crane all added singles for Calgary, which improves its Canada West record to 5-0-1 with the win.

Calgary goalkeeper Lauren Good made three saves to secure her first shutout of the season.

The Dinos got on the board in the 11th minute when Vernon corralled a high pass from defender Andrea Nania, turned at the top of the box and fired a low shot to notch her first of the season. Calgary's second goal came in the 18th, as Furukawa applied pressure to the Cougar back line and collected the first of her two strikes after forcing a turnover.

Cougar keeper Kacey McFee blocked an Ann Stranges cross from the right just two minutes after Furukawa's goal, but the ball went straight to Hockings who connected for her fourth of the season. Calgary added to the lead just before halftime when Miller sent a through ball up the middle for Furukawa, who finished for her fifth of the season.

Calgary continued the offence in the second period, with Smith collecting her sixth of the year in the 59th minute and Miller and Bradbury-Crane scoring in a two-minute span midway through the half.

The Dinos wrap up their prairie road swing Sunday when they face the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.
