Dinos use injury time to defeat Timberwolves

| By:
BOX SCORE CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team have yet to lose a game yet this season as they took down the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves 2-1 on Sept. 22.

The Dinos found themselves controlling most of the possession in the first half, putting on pressure in UNBC's end of the field for the majority of the first 45. However, the Timberwolves were the first team to get on the board. A through pass from Sydney Hall found it's way to Jessica Erickson's foot and she buried it past Dinos goalkeeper Sam Chang-Foidl for the 1-0 lead.

The lead held up going into the second half.

In the back half of the game, the Dinos pressure continued to build up as they were getting desperate for a tying goal. In the 81st minute, their opportunity finally came. Off a pass from Jordan Smith, centre midfielder Tessa Miller was all alone on the left side in the box with two UNBC defenders. She made no mistake shooting for the top left corner of the goal. The ball sailed past the Timberwolves goalkeeper to tie the game up at one.

The Dinos wouldn't stop there. With UNBC barely able to get the ball out of their half of the field, Calgary's chances were many to score the game winner.

The referee added five minutes of extra time to the half due to an injury earlier and so the Dinos opportunities were coming down to the last second. After a foul was called against UNBC about 20 yards out, Miller's free kick found the head of Smith to get the go ahead goal.

The referee blew the whistle was soon as the ball was touched on the next kick off and the Dinos defeated the Timberwolves in outstanding fashion, 2-1.

Miller now sits solidly in second place in the conference in points with nine total, four goals and five assists. She has recorded a point in every single one of Calgary's game so far this season.

The Dinos travel to Saskatchewan to take on the Regina Cougars Sept. 28 and the following day will face the Saskatchewan Huskies, hoping to remain undefeated.
