“In games like tonight we knew we had to be discipline, but we were our own worst enemy,” explained head coach
Danielle Goyette. “They were the better team, they came prepared, it was do or die for them and they showed character.
“They outworked in portions of the game tonight, and tomorrow we are going to be in the same boat as they are,” continued the sixth-year bench boss. “At this time of the year you can't hope to win by playing 20 or 40 minutes.”
Following some early pressure, the Dinos netted the game's first goal as their captain continued her impressive play through two playoff games. While on the power play, a scrum broke out in front of the net where
Tanya Morgan poked the puck past Michala Jeffries. The goal was her second of the playoffs after she netted Friday's triple overtime winner.
A hard established fore-check assisted the Pandas in the second period on route to tying the game and eventually taking a lead into the third stanza. Carrying the puck out from the right corner, Tess Houston positioned herself in the slot where she wired a shot past
Amanda Tapp at 5:32.
The Dinos responded at the 8:14 mark while on another man advantage. Great puck possession by
Stephanie Ramsay allowed her to break off a defender and find
Iya Gavrilova at the right side of the net for her second of the series.
With a power play of their own four minutes later, Alberta chipped away and tied the game for a second time in the period. After a shot by Monika Moskalski didn't go in, Jessica Kampjes popped in the rebound for her second of the playoffs.
At 19:13 of the middle frame, Kayla Lavallee rifled a shot over the shoulder of Tapp, handing the Pandas a 3-2 advantage through 40 minutes.
In the final period, Karla Bourke doubled the visitors lead as she buried her fourth of the post season at the 13:58 mark. Moskalski picked up her third assist of the evening on the play.
Moskalski added her fourth point of the night while shorthanded at 16:58. While trying to block a shot, the fifth-year forward was able to grab the puck and skate in alone, beating Tapp for her third of the playoffs.
Morgan scored her second of the night at 18:09 on the power play, but it wasn't enough as the Dinos fell short in their comeback efforts.
