BOX SCORE
CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos won their third consecutive game when they defeated the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 89-75 on Nov. 22 at Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson showed by he was one of the biggest scoring threats in the conference when he scored 32 points for a game-high on the night. He also grabbed the only double-double when he recorded 10 rebounds. Josh Turner followed that up with 23 points, Philip Barndt with 11 and Matt Letkeman picked up 10 rebounds in Calgary's win.
For Thompson Rivers, Ta'Quan Zimmerman scored a team-high 27 points in the WolfPack's loss and Josh Wolfam scored another 15.
The game started out fast paced as Ogungbemi-Jackson took the reigns for the Dinos from the get-go. The quarter ended all tied up at 15 with 13 of Calgary's 15 points coming from their point guard including a couple of three-pointers.
In the second quarter Thompson Rivers took the lead at 18-17 with a three-pointer, but the lead would continue to change a number of times before halftime. Despite the Dinos taking a three-point lead half way through the quarter, Thompson Rivers took the lead again at 28-26.
From there, Turner and a number of other Dinos began to turn up the heat, going on a 10-0 run to regain the lead. They would head into the half up 41-34 with Ogungbemi-Jackson with 19 points, leading all players thus far.
The Dinos managed to maintain their lead of six points throughout the beginning of the third before the WolfPack started picking it up on offence. Despite a three-pointer getting Thompson Rivers within one at 50-49, Turner silenced that pretty quick when he responded with one of this own.
From there, the Dinos continued to play some great defence and the WolfPack were unable to overcome the lead. Calgary headed into the final quarter up 64-58 despite being outscored 24-23.
Halfway through the fourth, the Dinos were already in foul trouble and giving up free throws that the WolfPack continued to capitalize on. With four minutes left in the game, it was Thompson Rivers that found a way to get within two at 71-69, but Josh Owen-Thomas' first basket of that night happened to be a three-pointer and it provided another cushion the Dinos needed.
Calgary's rebounding on defence, along with some key shots made by Ogungbemi-Jackson and Turner in the final minutes of the game allowed the Dinos to walk away with their third win of the season with a score of 89-75.
Calgary hosts the UBC Okanagan Heat tomorrow night at 7 p.m. and the WolfPack will head to Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns.
