Streak snapped in shutout loss

| By:
BOX SCORE WINNIPEG - The Dinos' seven-game win streak was snapped Friday night as they fell 6-0 to the No. 7 Manitoba Bisons at the Max Bell Centre in Winnipeg.

Calgary drops to 13-8-0 with the loss, while Manitoba improves to 13-5-3. With the win and a Saskatchewan loss, the Bisons move ahead of the Huskies and into second place in the Canada West standings.

Scoring the game-winner was Bisons forward James Henry. Also putting up numbers, forward Travis Bobbee notched a goal and an assist. Forward Jesse Paradis had three assists in the winning effort.

Calgary, meanwhile, struggled with its offense all night. The Dinos put 22 shots on net, but not many were very dangerous.

A jostling first period between the two teams led things off, with the Bisons utterly dominating through most of the 20 minutes. Both teams checked hard, but Manitoba was first on the board. Henry, with space in front of the net six minutes in, wristed the puck past Dustin Butler glove-side to make it 1-0.

Four minutes later, Bobbee intercepted an attempted high pass out of the zone, put it down, then snapped it past Butler. A big period for Manitoba was completed in quick succession as a huge hit into the boards by Dylan Kelly forced a turnover. From that, three Manitoba players swarmed the net and Paul Ciarelli found an angle, sliding the puck past Butler to make it 3-0 after one period.

In the second, Manitoba kept coming - their defence warded off a few Calgary attacks early in the period, and the offence was rewarded with three more goals. First, forward Matthew Lowry got a shot from the point through a screen and past Butler halfway through the period. Next, forward Blair Macauley notched his tenth goal of the season courtesy of a pass across the zone from forward Ian Duval. After letting in his fifth, Dustin Butler hit the pine, with Jacob DeSerres taking over between the pipes.
Not phased, with three minutes left in the period, forward Dylan Kelly entered Calgary's zone, deked to his backhand, and put it past DeSerres to finish off another dominant period, making it 6-0.

The third period was more of a formality, though staying strong, as he did in the first 40 minutes, was Bisons goalie Jesse Deckert. Thanks to him and the Manitoba penalty kill, they were able to keep Calgary off the board throughout the period. Deckert, with his second shutout of the year, recorded 22 saves.

The Dinos and Bisons go at it one more time Satruday night, with puck drop set for 6 p.m. MT.
