BOX SCORE KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Dinos held a late lead but couldn't translate it into a victory as they fell 85-81 to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack Saturday night in Kamloops.
Calgary falls to 5-7 on the season with the loss, which comes on the heels of a key win over the UBC Okanagan Heat Friday night in Kelowna.
“On the road, it is always good to get a split,” said Dinos had coach
Dan Vanhooren. "If you can win your games at home you are in better shape. We have a young ball club and we need to learn to win on the road. Tonight was a great game for us. We battled hard. Thompson Rivers played a good, physical basketball game, and we needed to make more foul shots.”
The Dinos were 15-for 25 from the foul line while the WolfPack were 20 for 25.
The WolfPack were led by fifth-year guard Kevin Pribilsky, who put up 20 points. Thompson Rivers had four other players in double figures: Brett Rouault had 15 points while Zach Usherwood and Akeem Pierre each added 11 points with Troy Grant chipping in with 10.
Calgary was led by
Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson, who had 24 points.
Josh Owen-Thomas had 14 points while
Thijin Moses and
Jasdeep Gill contributed 11 points apiece.
"I think we have to look at it as one game at a time," said Vanhooren. "I think we learned about how hard it is to win on the road and what you have to do in order to be successful. Going back home, we have to regroup and play as hard as we can and battle. I thought we played pretty well here; I thought we got out rebounded pretty badly. Our young group battled and will get better as we get a little more experienced.”
The Dinos return home next weekend for another set against Pacific Division opponents, facing the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday and the Trinity Western Spartans Saturday.
