VANCOUVER – The Dinos men's soccer team was unable to generate much offensively, losing their season opener 3-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds Friday night at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver.

UBC showed off an exciting high speed, high pressure style of play that allowed them to attack the Calgary net with 22 shots directed toward the goal. Fifth-year midfielder Marco Visintin scored the winning tally in the 24th minute, easily putting a penalty kick past the Calgary keeper after teammate Gagandeep Dosanjh was tripped on a breakaway.

A key player in his third season with the Thunderbirds, Dosanjh set up Navid Mashinchi with a through ball on a run to put UBC up 2-0 in the 65th minute. He then redirected a cross from Milad Mehrabi to add a goal of his own with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.

The Dinos managed eight toward 'Birds keeper Luke O'Shea, but only Izak Lawrence's attempt forced O'Shea to make a save. Meanwhile Calgary netminder Jordan Unreiner was called upon to make seven stops in the loss.

Calgary heads east to Langley to wrap up their week one road trip with another night game against the Trinity Western Spartans Saturday.
