Cougars nip Dinos in first-ever conference meeting

| By:
BOX SCORE CALGARY – Riley Reinbolt's goal at 11:07 in the second period proved to be the difference maker as the Mount Royal University Cougars downed the visiting Calgary Dinos 3-2 in Canada West men's hockey action Thursday at Flames Community Arenas.

Eric Galbraith and Tyler Jewitt also provided goals for Mount Royal who improved to 4-11-0 with the win, while Calgary drops below .500 falling to 6-7-0. Calgary's Kevin King and Alex Dzielski responded with tallies for the Dinos.

Mount Royal opened the scoring mid-way through the first asGalbraith made a pretty spin move all alone in front popping home a beautiful goal high blocker side on Jason DeSerres to give MRU the 1-0 lead.

Up one after 20 minutes, Galbraith would help get the Cougars back on the board yet again, as he centered a Mike Brown pass from behind the net and onto the stick of Jewitt who made no mistake burying his fifth of the year to make it 2-0 Cougars.

Under four minutes later, Mount Royal would get back on the board as Billy Marshall saucered a pass over a sprawling Calgary defenceman and onto the tape of Reinbolt who squeaked one past DeSerres to give Mount Royal the three goal advantage.

The frantic action would continue in the second as the Dinos got their offence going, scoring their first of the game as King jammed home a loose puck from the right side to cut the lead to two.

Less than two minutes later the Dinos tallied again, the game's fourth goal in 10 minutes as Alex Dzielski added his first of the year, ripping a point shot that deflected off a Cougars defenceman and past a screened Justin Cote to trail by just one.

Calgary came out aggressively in the third, clearly holding the edge in play as they registered 13 shots on goal in the stanza compared to Mount Royal's four. Walker Wintoneak would have the best chance to tie the game for the Dinos, as he walked in all alone early in the third but was stonewalled by Cote who made 25 stops in goal for the Cougars – securing their second straight win, 3-2.

The Cougars and Dinos will meet back on the ice on Friday night at Calgary's Farther David Bauer Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
