ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Leading at the half, the Calgary Dinos looked in a position to pull off a big win over the No. 9 Fraser Valley Cascades - but a solid rebounding performance in the second half led the Cascades to a 74-65 win Friday night at the Envision Athletic Centre.

The loss drops Calgary's record to 3-6 and sets up an all-important Saturday night tilt in Langley against the Trinity Western Spartans, a game that would give the Dinos much-needed help in a playoff race that is quickly slipping away.

Fifth-year transfer Boris Bakovic made his debut for the Dinos in the contest and spent 31 minutes on the floor, scoring 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting, while Tyler Fidler led all Dinos with 19 points on the night.

The game was one of the more entertaining for the fans this season and provided a very close first half with the score tied at 14 each after the first quarter.  In the second quarter, the Dinos outscored UFV by five points as the Cascades trailed at the half for the first time all season.  In the second half, UFV played tremendous defense holding Calgary to 31 points, outscoring the Dinos by 14 to win their sixth conference game of the season.  With the loss Calgary falls to 3-6 in Canada West's East Division.

The Cascades were led by Joel Friesen's 23-point performance. Sam Freeman added 13 points while Mike James and Kyle Grewal put up eight points each. Grewal pulled down eight boards as UFV outrebounded Calgary 40 to 36 for the game.

In addition to his team-high 19 points, Fidler led Calgary with eight total rebounds. Sophomore forward Josh Wolfram joined Fidler and Bakovic in double-digit scoring with 10 points, but the Dinos managed just eight points off the bench on the night as Dan Vanhooren ran with seven players for the most part.

The Dinos regroup and head west to face the Trinity Western Spartans Saturday night at the Langley Athletic Centre. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. MT, live on CanadaWest.tv.
