BOX SCORE CALGARY – In their second home game of the season, the University of Calgary Dinos played to a 1-1 tie against the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades Saturday afternoon at the West Varsity Soccer Pitch.

BOX SCORE

Calgary improves to 3-1-1 with the draw, while Fraser Valley sits at 2-2-1.

The game started off in a neutral zone struggle as the first shot of the game wasn't registered until 10 minutes in.  Midway through the first half, UFV had the first great scoring chance of the game. Dariann Kloot curved a  free kick on net from the left side, but was turned away as the ball rang off the post.

The Dinos turned up the heat late in the half, but it was the Cascades that got on the board in the 43rd minute. A looping kick on net by Darianne Kloot left Calgary 'keeper Kristen Barton diving to block the shot. With Barton out of position, UFV forward Danika Snook was able to grab the ball and put it to the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.

The second half had barely begun before Calgary knotted up the game. In the first minute following half time, the Dinos capitalized on a bang-bang play that saw Saaraa Premji set up Tessa Miller with a perfect shot inside the box to make it 1-1 game.

Miller would continue her strong play in the back end of the game as she nearly missed her second tally on two great attempts. The fourth-year forward would hit the cross-bar on two separate attempts, one from the top of the box and the second coming off of a free kick.

The Cascades had the final great scoring chance of the match with seven minutes to go. During a scramble in front of the Dinos net, a quick shot appeared to be going in before Jaclyn Hunter got back to push the ball out of danger.

UFV goalkeeper Chantelle Biagioni was named the Cascades' player of the match after a sparkling seven-save performance with the Dinos peppering the UFV net with 17 shots directed toward the goal.

The Dinos return to action Sunday afternoon as they take on the University of Victoria Vikes at the West Varsity Soccer Pitch, while UFV travels south to face the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
