BOX SCORE EDMONTON - Senior striker Heather Lund scored early and often for the No.4 University of Alberta Pandas, earning a hat trick over the Calgary Dinos who lost by a 4-1 score, Sunday afternoon at Foote Field.
BOX SCORE
The Red Deer native now has four goals after the first two games of the season, equating almost half of the nine goals she scored in all of last year. Third-year defender Shalla Kadima added a single to round out the scoring for Alberta while sophomore striker Kayla Michaels picked up a pair of assists.
Senior defender
Caitlin Milne (pictured) notched the lone tally for the visitors.
The home team opened the scoring immediately when, after a Dinos offside call, Pandas netminder Kelti Biggs lofted a long bomb to Lund, who broke in alone on Calgary's
Kristen Barton before putting the strike home on the short side in the second minute.
The Dinos replied five minutes later when sophomore forward
Sarah Benson found Milne at the top of the 18-yard box, with the Calgary native lobbing it just over the reach of an outstretched Biggs to knot the score at one.
Lund regained the Alberta lead shortly after in the 13th minute, however, when she took a short pass in tight from Michaels, driving home her milestone 20th conference goal in Panda silks.
Another Michaels pass found its way to Lund in the 65th minute so the former Red Deer College student could complete the hat trick.
Kadima, on a hot streak of her own, scored her second goal in as many games by, incidentally, converting an Elise Emmott corner-kick as she did on Saturday afternoon. The insurance goal in the 69th minute helped force Barton out of the goal with third-year 'keeper
Tara Ellis taking over in the final 20 minutes for the Dinos.
The Pandas will head west next weekend to take on the Victoria Vikes and Fraser Valley Cascades, while Calgary takes on a home-and-home series with the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
