BOX SCORE SASKATOON - The Calgary Dinos ran into a solid goalie and gave up three as they dropped their season-opener 3-0 to the Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday afternoon.
BOX SCORE
Josh Northey opened the scoring in the second minute when he flicked the ball past Dinos 'keeper
Michael Arnieri to put the ball in the open net. The home side added its second goal in the 42nd minute from a Jerson Barandica-Hamilton corner kick that Jordian Farahani headed past Arnieri.
The Huskies picked up where they left off coming out of the halftime break taking a 3-0 lead in the 54th minute. Austin Boryski won a 50-50 ball to the back post and centered it for Sam Mylymok to finish into the open net.
Calgary's best chance to get on the score sheet came in the 11th minute when
Izak Lawrence sent a ball on the ground through the six yard box but
Jeremy Jenkyns was unable to direct the ball on frame. The Dinos nearly capitalized a few minutes later on a set piece when the ball ricocheted off a couple of heads in the box but sailed just wide.
The Dinos were never able to gain momentum in the second half as the Huskies defence clamped down. Calgary did manage nine shots on goal in the game but could not beat Mark Diakiw as he earned his first clean sheet of the season.
The Huskies will look to start the season 2-0 Sunday as they host the Lethbridge Pronghorns at 2:15 p.m. on Field 7 in Saskatoon's PotashCorp Park. The Dinos will look to rebound as they head to Edmonton to take on the University of Alberta Golden Bears.
