Dinos return home to face high-flying Huskies

| By:
CALGARY - After playing their past five contests on the road, the University of Calgary Dinos return home to Father David Bauer where they will take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for a two-game set.

On their road trip, the Dinos played games in Lethbridge and Vancouver before wrapping up with two games in Regina. Calgary went 3-2 in those five games, placing them in a third-place tie in the Canada West with a 7-5-0 record heading into this weekend.

In their first game last weekend against the Cougars, the Dinos were stonewalled by rookie goaltender Lucas Gore. The former Chilliwack Bruins' netminder stopped 30 of 31 shots, leading his club to a 4-1 victory. Calgary was able to get to Gore the next night as a well-rounded attack carried the Dinos to a 6-1 win and split in the two games.

The Huskies come to Calgary after a bye-week the previous weekend. In their two games on Nov. 4-5, Saskatchewan swept Manitoba as they continued to build on their excellent start and 7-1-1 record.

This is the first match-up of the year between these two clubs. Last season, the Dinos were 1-3 against the Huskies. Calgary also faced-off against Saskatchewan in the Canada West semi-finals last year where the Dinos claimed the series in a deciding third game. The win sent Calgary to their first University Cup tournament since 2000.

Calgary continues to be led by new recruits as three of the four top scorers for the Dinos are new to the team this season. Two players fresh out of the Western Hockey League, Dylan Hood and Taylor Stefishen are tied for the team lead in points with veteran forward Brock Nixon for 11. Swift skating defenceman Teigan Zahn isn't far behind them with 10 points of his own, including nine assists. Zahn is tied with Manitoba defender Jeremy Schappert for points by a defenceman this season.

The Huskies attack has been focused around Kyle Bortis and Derek Hulak. Both Saskatchewan forwards are tied with Alberta's Sean Ringrose as top scorer in the Canada West with 15 points. Bortis is currently on pace to beat his career high in goals and points, while the second-year Hulak has already surpassed his totals from last season after only playing in 11 games. In October Bortis was named the Graduate of the Month from the WHL.

Between the pipes, Calgary has seen steady work from starter Dustin Butler once again this season. The reigning goalie of the year has won five of his last six games. Back-up Kris Lazaruk has held his own in his four games played this year posting almost identical numbers to those of Butler.

Saskatchewan has gone back and forth between their two goalies Ryan Holfeld and David Reekie. Both netminders are having excellent seasons, but Holfeld's numbers jump off the page. The Leroy, Saskatchewan native has a 3-1 record along with a 1.85 GAA and .942 SV%.

Next weekend, the Dinos travel to Winnipeg where they will take on the Manitoba Bisons for two games on Nov. 25-26. The Huskies return to action on Nov. 25-26 as they host the UBC Thunderbirds.
