BOX SCORE ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The Calgary Dinos got good goaltending from
Tara Ellis and a goal by rookie
Victoria Moretti to defeat the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Bateman Park.
BOX SCORE
The win improves Calgary's record to 4-2-2 as they hang on to a playoff spot for the time being, while UFV falls to 3-3-2.
The Cascades played a strong game, controlling a good portion of the midfield and attacking the Calgary defence. The match started off well for UFV and within the first ten minutes the Cascades had five straight corner kicks and had pinned Calgary deep in their zone. The Dinos defence played well keeping UFV off the scoreboard, and goalkeeper Ellis made several great saves to keep Calgary in the game early.
The Dinos would marched down the pitch and score the game's lone goal at the 27th minute by
Victoria Moretti. The Cascades offence kept shooting on Ellis but she made 12 saves to record the shutout.
Calgary enjoys a bye over Thanksgiving and returns to action Oct. 15-16 when the Alberta Pandas and Saskatchewan Huskies pay a visit to the West Varsity Soccer Pitch.
