KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Tamara Jarrett scored 20 points while
Ashley Hill added 19 as the University of Calgary Dinos recorded a virtual carbon-copy of their Friday night win, sweeping their weekend series with the Thompson Rivers WolfPack with a 72-64 decision at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops.
BOX SCORE
Whistles echoed all night from the rafters of the TCC as the teams combined for 45 personal fouls and the Dinos went to the line 38 times. They managed to convert 28 of those opportunities, and that was easily the difference in the game.
Jarrett scored 10 of her 20 from the line, while Hill converted eight of her 10 free-throw chances. The second half was where Hill shone brightest, scoring 15 of her 19 after the break to add to her career totals, having already claimed the third spot on the Dinos' all-time scoring list.
TRU was up 34-33 at the half, but the 'Pack was outscored 22-17 by the Dinos in the third quarter and found themselves down 55-52.
Jarrett was the major thorn in the side of TRU in this one. In addition to her 20 points, 12 of which came in the second quarter, she hauled down 11 rebounds.
Megan Lang added 11 points.
For TRU, Jen Ju had an outstanding game. She had 28 points including eight hoops from three-point territory. Kailey Colonna had 11 rebounds.
The WolfPack suffered a major blow in late in the third quarter when guard Kaitlyn Widsten went down with an apparent knee injury. She was taken off the court and eventually sent to Royal Inland Hospital via ambulance. She had five points at the time of the injury.
The WolfPack close out the Canada West season at home to UVIC and UBC.
Calgary, meanwhile, returns home for a huge series against the Manitoba Bisons Feb. 4-5. With six games to play, the Dinos are one of four teams looking to grab the two remaining Canada West playoff spots. Currently tied with Fraser Valley at 8-10 on the year, the Dinos sit one game up on TRU (7-13) and two ahead of 6-12 Manitoba. A sweep of the Bisons would virtually eliminate them from the post-season race and give the Dinos a good opportunity to re-enter the playoff picture after sitting on the outside last year for the first time since 1982.
The Dinos wrap up the season by visiting Alberta before hosting Saskatchewan Feb. 18-20.
